Working hand in hand with the homeowner’s vision for this loft apartment renovation, KLN Studio was tasked with the design, fabrication and installation of this cantilevered staircase and railing in the fall of 2021. The asymmetrical steel structure allows the solid oak treads to cantilever off of the wall while still feeling robust, and the matching handrail was attached with custom made brackets buried behind the drywall to conceal hardware and plates. Both the staircase and railing had to accommodate a protruding column, providing a fun and whimsical detail as you travel up and down between levels in this sun drenched space.
